About this blog

My mother was a great cook. My father loved to eat.
I am the Man from Pawtucket and this is my story. Here you will find a collection of observations, from Central Falls to Central Park, from Pawtucket to Paris, about Eating Well. Bon Appetit.

2 Amys

Had another great meal at 2 Amys in Washington, DC. Our first server got tripped up on the slice meats selection and the clam pizza was not as good as Pepe's but otherwise a very enjoyable dinner.

Starting with a seasonal pumpkin grilled pizza, grilled octopus salad at Al Forno

Next course - linguini with egg, duck bacon and pea tendrils. Finished the savories with spicy clam roast with hot sausage and mash potatoes and a plate of grilled vegetables. For desert we had the signature grand cookie finale and a kumquat and orange meringue tart.

Thanksgiving at SD26

Frank Pepe's White Clam Pizza.

Finally tried a white clam pizza at the famous Frank Pepe's of New Haven. Definitely worth the stop (and maybe the wait if you get there late).

Encore

Scenes from a recent trip to Paris. You can see I took advantage of the season and had a few dishes with mushrooms.

1. Sautéed mushrooms with garlic and parsley and 2. seafood 'salad' at Brindille; 3. 'escargot' at Chez l'ami Jean ; 4. soft egg and mushrooms (this dish was really very good) and 5. duck at Cafe Constant

Sunday Brunch.

There is more to brunch than overcooked omelets and white 'bread' toast. Check out this map on eater.com

Food Lovers' Guide to Maine

Just received a copy of the Food Lovers' Guide to Maine by Margaret Hathaway. Margaret is also the author of Living with Goats and The Year of the Goat. She lives in southern Maine with her husband Karl Schatz (a colleague of mine), where they raise dairy goats and poultry and make cheese. Check out their place Ten Apple Farm.

'Brunch" @ Motorino East Village

We had a great 'brunch' at Motorino in the East Village last weekend. We shared 3 pies:
1. breakfast pizza - Pizza al’ Uovo fior di latte (mozzarella), fried farm eggs, pancetta, basil,
pecorino and chili oil
2. Cherry Stone Clams , fior di latte, garlic, parsley butter, olive oil
3. grape tomatoes, mozzarella di bufala, red onions and white anchovies

and then, because we had to wait for the clams to be shucked (it wasn't very long actually) they offered us a plate of Tiramisu.

Now that's a nice brunch.

canapés in Perpignan

I was lucky enough to attend a few 'cocktail receptions' recently in Perpignan, France. They always seem to come up with news ways to serve the trays of canapés.
